Exploring forecasts in French

This French scheme of work video introduces teachers to the skills needed to help Key stage 2 pupils use authentic materials to explore weather and climate. It explores how to watch a French weather forecast for gist understanding, encouraging children to use visual and contextual clues rather than translate every word. The video demonstrates each step, from discussing expectations of a forecast and exploring the France Météo website to interpreting graphs and tables showing weather data.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Language teacher video resources. It simplifies the process, ensuring teachers feel confident and prepared to support the pupils in combining French with geography and maths. With opportunities to compare climates in countries such as Belgium and Madagascar, practise comparative language, and develop data handling skills, the lesson provides a cross-curricular approach that is both authentic and engaging.
