The t sound in french

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow French scheme of work. It explores the consonant sound “t” in French, showing pupils how it is pronounced clearly in most positions but often remains silent at the end of words. The video reinforces that even when doubled, or when followed by the letter h, the “t” still makes its crisp “t” sound.

The narrative continues with practice in “mouth mechanics,” encouraging pupils to listen carefully, copy the sound, and notice the difference between when the letter is pronounced and when it is silent. Examples such as trois, des lettres, and le tais are used to highlight the rule in action. Pupils are reminded to stay alert for final consonants that are not pronounced, and to recognise that the sound “th” as in English never occurs in French. The video finishes by challenging pupils to spot the “t” sound in more French words, strengthening their confidence in reading and speaking.
