Understanding earthquakes and their impact
In this Geography video, teachers are supported in delivering a lesson on earthquakes to the children, building on their existing knowledge of plate boundaries, volcanoes and mountains. The video introduces seismic activity and explores how the intensity, location and preparedness of communities influence the impact of earthquakes.
Teachers are guided through the causes and effects of earthquakes, including seismic waves, fault lines and epicentres. The video shows how earthquakes are mapped along tectonic plate boundaries and outlines the serious consequences they can have, as well as how earthquake-prone regions adapt.
This video aims to help teachers confidently deliver key content while addressing common misconceptions about the causes and effects of earthquakes.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Earth systems videos and helps children contextualise their knowledge of earthquakes through real-world human geography.
