Debugging basics

This Computing video introduces teachers to the concept of debugging. It explains that a set of computing instructions is called an algorithm and that debugging means finding and fixing errors, also known as bugs.

By the end of Key stage 1, the children should be able to create and debug simple programs. They begin by spotting real-life errors and linking these to computer commands and instructions. They develop early computational thinking skills, such as working step by step, identifying patterns and testing solutions. The video shows how these skills are practised through unplugged activities, helping the children build a strong understanding of key programming concepts.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing – Coding skills videos, a comprehensive collection that explains and demonstrates key programming concepts, helping teachers to deliver the computing curriculum with clarity and confidence.
