French feelings practice
This French video introduces teachers to the skills needed to help Key stage 2 pupils ask and answer questions about how they are feeling. It explores how to use flashcards to introduce new vocabulary with repetition, model intonation for questions and move the pupils from choral repetition into partner practice. The video demonstrates each step, from showing and guessing cards to using simple games that encourage the children to ask and respond to “Ça va?” with increasing confidence.
Teachers are supported in simplifying the process and gaining confidence in helping the pupils develop speaking and listening skills. With various flashcard activities such as ‘Thumbs up’, ‘Guess my card’ and ‘Steal’, the lesson provides plenty of repetition, practice and fun, laying the foundations for the pupils to use greetings and express feelings in French.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s French Year 3 and 4 teacher videos, which support teachers in developing confidence and subject knowledge when helping children learn to communicate with increasing fluency in another language.
