Creating a street art project

This Art and Design scheme of work video supports the final stage of Kapow Primary’s Year 6 Drawing: Expressing ideas unit;  creating their own artwork in response to a design brief. The focus is on using art as a voice: to share a message, raise awareness, or inspire others.

Their artwork will communicate a message; something they care about and want others to notice. The video guides pupils through key design decisions such as choosing a bold, clear message, thinking about the artwork’s location and how people will view it, and using one-point perspective to add depth.

It also highlights the impact of strong visual features, like colours, symbols, pattern, balance and scale. Children are encouraged to sketch out ideas in their sketchbooks, testing different layouts, styles and materials. They’re reminded that art is their voice and murals can brighten spaces, raise awareness and inspire action. This video encourages independence, careful planning and creative confidence.
