How do websites work?
This Computing scheme of work video introduces how websites work, breaking down the journey of information from a click to a screen. It supports learning from the Year 3 Computing systems and networks 1: Networks unit.
Pupils will learn what happens when they click on a link or type a web address. They’ll explore how this sends a request to a server—a powerful computer that stores website content like videos, images and text. The video explains how the server finds, prepares and sends this data back to the user’s device, making the website appear almost instantly.
Children are also introduced to the idea of the cloud. They’ll learn that this is not in the sky, but a global network of servers that store information safely. When a server doesn’t hold the website directly, it may collect the data from the cloud before sending it on. This video builds foundational knowledge of internet communication.
