Outward signs of belief in everyday life
This Religion and worldviews video helps pupils explore how beliefs can be expressed through actions, clothing, symbols and choices in daily life. The images feature people participating in sports, volunteering, working, protesting, and celebrating important events. Pupils see examples of visible religious expression, such as a kippah, a turban, a nun’s habit, rosary beads and a hijab, as well as cultural clothing like saris and kilts. Alongside these, the video shows people whose beliefs and values are evident through their behaviour: caring for others, attending community events, speaking up for the environment or embracing positive messages on clothing.
The video encourages pupils to think carefully about what can and cannot be known by looking at someone from the outside. By comparing a wide range of examples, pupils recognise that beliefs may be expressed through symbols, actions or commitments, while some beliefs remain personal and unseen. This helps them reflect on diversity, avoid assumptions and appreciate the many ways people show what matters to them.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and worldviews videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore different beliefs, values and traditions, developing respect and understanding for people of all faiths and worldviews.
