What is it like to be a web developer?

This Computing scheme of work video gives pupils a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a web developer. It follows Jaz, a developer who designs websites and apps for learning, gaming and video sharing, helping pupils understand what this job involves.

The video shows how each day begins with a team meeting to plan ideas and discuss projects. Pupils learn that web developers use special coding languages—like HTML—to build the structure and design of websites, using commands and tags to tell the computer what to do. Pupils also see the importance of taking breaks away from work.

Jaz explains how web development is more than just writing code. It involves testing, solving problems and debugging—fixing errors in the code to make sure everything works smoothly. Pupils see how creativity, teamwork and attention to detail come together to turn ideas into real, working websites.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 4 Skills Showcase: HTML unit. It helps pupils link classroom learning to real-life jobs in the digital world, showing how coding skills can lead to exciting and rewarding careers.
