Before the lesson

This alternative theme provides an outcome that would be ideal for Easter. Refer to the Design and technology, Year 2, Mechanisms: Making a moving monster unit for videos on linkages and assembly that will provide all the skills needed to make a chick, bunny or another animal.

See Design and technology, Year 2, Mechanisms, Making a moving monster, Lesson 4: Making my monster for the Teacher video: Construction and evaluation and Pupil video: Construction.

The linkages in the mechanical animal are made in the same way as the moving monster, using paper fasteners and strips of card.
