Before the lesson

This alternative theme provides an outcome that would be ideal for Easter. Refer to the Design and technology, Year 2, Mechanisms: Making a moving monster unit for videos on linkages and assembly that will provide all the skills needed to make a chick, bunny or another animal.

The linkages in the mechanical animal are made in the same way as the moving monster, using paper fasteners and strips of card.
You will need:
- Glue sticks
- Rulers
- Scissors
- Paper fasteners
- A4 card (assorted colours)
- Colouring pencils
- Decorative craft items (e.g. googly eyes, wool)
- Pencil and rubber
Download and unzip the Activity pack: Easter mechanical animals and choose from:
- Activity: Chick templates – (pre-coloured or plain) or
Activity: Bunny templates – (pre-coloured or plain) or - Activity: DIY mechanical animal template – (pupils design their own animal)
With a copy of:
- Activity: A4 card strips template and
- Activity: Egg template– (pre-coloured or plain)
All of the above activities need to be printed on card.
