Making verb practice active and engaging

This French video introduces teachers to creative, kinaesthetic strategies for helping pupils practise regular verb conjugations. Using a simple spinner template, pupils can test each other by forming verbs with different subject pronouns, reinforcing how endings change in the present tense. The activity is deliberately hands-on, giving children a chance to build, adapt, and personalise the resource while revising verbs they already know.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s French scheme of work – grammar. It demonstrates a range of flexible options for verb practice, from playground games and human sentence building to caption challenges for reading comprehension. Teachers are encouraged to adapt the approach to suit their class, making grammar memorable and active. The lesson also highlights that not all verbs follow regular patterns, setting the stage for introducing irregular verbs in future sessions.
