Encouraging curiosity with a wonder box

This Religion and worldviews video supports teachers in using a wonder box to encourage children’s curiosity and create a safe, inclusive space for asking big questions. It explains how to make and introduce the wonder box, how it supports children’s natural inquisitiveness, and how it can be used to explore personal worldviews through questions prompted by learning or life experience. Teachers are reminded that children’s questions may be sensitive, anonymous, or complex, and should be handled with care and curiosity.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and worldviews scheme – wonder. It builds teachers’ confidence in managing pupil-led inquiry by offering practical strategies for collecting, reviewing and addressing questions thoughtfully. The wonder box supports disciplinary thinking across the curriculum and promotes respectful dialogue by valuing each child’s ideas and reflections. It encourages critical thinking, deepens personal knowledge and supports a classroom culture of open, thoughtful exploration.
