Mastering football turns

This PE scheme of work video introduces teachers to the techniques needed to help Key stage 2 pupils turn and change direction with control in football lessons. It focuses on using the inside and outside of the foot to turn effectively, practising with both feet to change direction in either clockwise or anticlockwise movements. Pupils will experiment with different angles, from acute turns to 180-degree changes, learning how foot placement affects control and how to keep their heads up to scan the space they are moving into.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s PE Football resources. It simplifies the process, guiding teachers through clear, practical demonstrations and engaging activities such as “Bib Tag,” where pupils dribble and turn to avoid being tagged. The structured approach builds pupils’ confidence and decision-making skills, helping them to control the ball effectively while changing direction during a game.

The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Physical education, key stage 2, KS2, Football, Lesson 2: Changing direction
