Analysing data from transport networks

This Computing video supports teachers in guiding the children in analysing real-world transport data using spreadsheets.

The video demonstrates how to use historical passenger data from the London Underground to answer questions from fictional commuters, identifying quieter stations and suggesting travel choices. It introduces filtering, freezing panes and interpreting CSV data using Excel or similar spreadsheet software, with a step-by-step example to solve one of the six provided scenarios. The lesson builds computational thinking and data handling skills, supporting the children in applying their learning to meaningful real-life contexts and preparing them for the next stage, which is exploring how large datasets are used in digital systems.

This video is part of the Year 6 Data handling 1: Big Data 1 unit, supporting the children to develop their data analysis skills.
