History and meaning of the temple

This Religion and worldviews video supports teachers in understanding the history and significance of the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem, helping to introduce pupils to ideas of sacred space, connection to God and historical continuity. It explains how the Israelites, led by Moses, built the Tabernacle as a place of worship during their desert journey and how this later became the First Temple, built by King Solomon. The video explores how the First and Second Temples functioned as places of national and spiritual importance, and how their destruction led to exile and the Jewish diaspora. It also explains the current significance of the Western Wall as a remnant of the ancient Temple.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and worldviews scheme – history. It helps teachers understand the emotional and spiritual importance of sacred places within Judaism, as well as the broader impact of historical events on religious identity. It prepares teachers to confidently explore symbolism, memory and reverence with pupils, and highlights how places like the Western Wall continue to connect people to faith, history and each other.
