Expressing ideas, encouraging pupil ownership in creative projects
This Art and Design scheme of work video helps teachers guide pupils through the final two lessons of the Street art unit, where they apply everything they’ve learned to create independent artwork. The focus is on helping pupils take greater ownership of their decisions from concept to material choices while building confidence as creative thinkers.
Teachers are encouraged to nurture creative autonomy by prompting rather than directing. Strategies include modelling annotation, encouraging peer feedback, and establishing a well-resourced and clearly labelled materials table to empower independent decision-making. The emphasis is on growth, resilience, and celebrating the process, helping pupils develop not just as artists but as expressive, thoughtful individuals.
