Power and accuracy in shooting

This PE scheme of work video introduces teachers to techniques that help Key stage 2 pupils improve both power and accuracy when shooting in football lessons. It builds on previous learning by applying controlled inside-foot techniques alongside striking with the top of the foot to increase shooting distance. Teachers will guide pupils through key principles including body positioning, ankle locking, follow-through, and the use of arms to generate power, helping them develop confidence and precision when shooting from different ranges.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s PE Football resources. It simplifies the process, using activities such as “Marbles,” where pupils practise aiming at a target with varying power, and a four-goal game to encourage experimentation and strategic shooting. These activities provide opportunities to apply technique in game-like situations while promoting teamwork and reinforcing skills from earlier lessons in the unit.
