Creating charts and graphs
This Computing video supports teachers in delivering a lesson focused on visual representations of data using Google Sheets. It introduces pupils to creating charts and graphs, beginning with selecting and inserting data from a previous activity—such as top trump cards—into a bar chart. Teachers are encouraged to demonstrate how to use the chart editor, discuss the different visual options, and explore how selecting various settings affects the graph. Pupils learn that visual representations are only useful when they make the data easier to understand, and overly busy charts can be misleading.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing scheme of work – videos. It helps teachers connect Computing with Maths by supporting pupils in understanding and comparing numerical data. The lesson reinforces the value of digital tools for analysing information and prepares pupils for a final project where they apply their data-handling skills using real websites to plan a holiday.
