Reading number words in French

This French video introduces teachers to strategies for moving from spoken counting to recognising and reading French number words. Pupils first revisit numbers orally through quick-paced partner games, racing, varying speed and volume, and counting in different multiples to refresh pronunciation before reading.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s French scheme – numbers. It focuses on identifying common phonemes, sorting number words into the correct order, and linking sound with spelling. The session ends with the ‘phoneme train’ game, encouraging pupils to generate words containing target sounds. By grounding pronunciation in familiar colour and number vocabulary, it builds reading confidence and supports long-term sound-spelling recognition in French.
