Spontaneous speaking with pictures

This French scheme of work video introduces teachers to the skills needed to help Key stage 2 pupils develop spontaneous speaking using picture prompts. It explores how to model and practise question-and-answer structures such as “How many are there?” and guides pupils in describing what they see, using plural forms and colour adjectives accurately. The video demonstrates each step, from building short spoken exchanges to combining answers into group presentations about transport scenes.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Language teacher video resources. It simplifies the process, ensuring teachers feel confident and prepared to support the pupils in practising authentic speaking skills. With opportunities to conduct surveys, compare traffic across world cities, and learn French city names, the lesson builds confidence in asking and answering questions while expanding cultural knowledge and curiosity.
