Creating personal mood boards

This archived Art and design scheme of work video introduces teachers to the first lesson in a topic on materials, where Key stage 2 pupils create personal mood boards as a foundation for later activities. It explains how mood boards help artists and designers focus their ideas and creativity by gathering colours, images, fabrics, and words with personal meaning. The video demonstrates each stage, from arranging items on a gridded A3 card and placing key elements at intersections, to annotating with words and expanding ideas organically over time.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s original LKS2 Art and design resources. It supports teachers in guiding pupils to reflect on personal experiences and preferences, while building creative confidence, developing visual literacy, and making meaningful design choices.
