Refining wheel shape and movement

This Design and technology scheme of work video supports teachers in delivering a Year 1 lesson on improving wheel designs for pull-along toys. It focuses on developing cutting skills and refining wheel shape to make them rounder, smoother, thicker and more stable.

The video models how to guide the children from cutting straight lines to curved edges using controlled techniques and shows how to test for issues like off-centre holes, wobbling wheels and poor movement. Teachers are supported to help the children problem-solve and improve wheel performance ahead of final toy assembly.
