Comparing planets in French
This French video introduces teachers to a lesson where children begin to explore comparison language, linking directly with their scientific knowledge of the solar system. The session builds on prior work with nouns, articles, and adjectives, focusing on how adjectives agree in gender and number. Teachers model comparisons using planets such as Neptune and Mercury, first describing them individually and then comparing size and temperature using structures like plus grand que (bigger than) and plus froid que (colder than). Practical activities include working with a comparison table or using planet cards to encourage speaking and movement around the classroom.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s French scheme – vocabulary. It supports pupils in developing both their grammatical understanding and their confidence in constructing longer sentences. By revisiting vocabulary from the earlier European Space Agency video and practising with adjectives such as big, small, hot, and cold, children consolidate their detective skills while applying language rules in context. The approach encourages independence, collaboration, and creativity, providing a clear bridge between language learning and science.
