Understanding commitment and expression in worldviews
This Religion and worldviews video supports teachers in guiding children through an enquiry into how worldviews influence people’s lives and the many ways beliefs can be expressed. It introduces the unit questions: how do worldviews affect our lives? and: how can worldviews be expressed?
The video provides guidance in helping children explore how many people from Christian, Hindu, Humanist, Jewish, Muslim and Sikh worldviews might express belief through practices such as ceremonies of commitment for babies and young people, dress, diet and charitable actions, while understanding that these vary widely and do not always reflect a person’s internal beliefs. The video supports teachers in navigating sensitive areas, such as money, fasting, and sacrifice, while modelling respectful discussion, tackling misconceptions, and recognising that individuals make different choices about how and whether to express their beliefs in visible ways. It encourages reflective classroom dialogue that honours diverse experiences and helps children recognise how their own worldview sits alongside those of others.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and worldviews teacher videos, which support teachers in developing confidence and subject knowledge when exploring different beliefs, values and traditions in the classroom.
