Building food chain sentences in french
This French video introduces teachers to a lesson that combines science and language learning by using animal and plant vocabulary from food chains to construct simple French sentences. Pupils use cognates and definitions to categorise animals into herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores, before learning the key verb manger (to eat) and applying it to the sentence structure “noun – verb – noun.” The activity can be extended for confident learners to explore the passive form for a more scientifically accurate description of energy flow.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s French – Vocabulary. It offers step-by-step modelling, practical resources such as word banks and sentence-building cards, and links to the storybook Bon appétit, Monsieur Lapin. The session encourages cross-curricular links with science, maths, and grammar, enabling pupils to practise speaking, listening, and sentence construction in French while reinforcing their understanding of food chains.
