Coming of age ceremonies

This Religion and worldviews teacher video introduces key ideas about coming of age ceremonies in Jewish, Hindu and Christian worldviews. It supports teachers in helping children explore how beliefs can influence personal commitment, responsibility and community participation during the move from childhood to adulthood. The video outlines significant features of each ceremony, enabling teachers to guide respectful discussions about why young people might choose to make promises or show belief at this point in their lives.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and worldviews scheme of work – ceremonies. It builds on previous learning about baby welcoming ceremonies, helping children deepen their understanding of belief, community and personal responsibility. The examples shared give clarity around how different worldviews express coming of age, supporting teachers in preparing for thoughtful and inclusive classroom conversations.
