Understanding the global location of biomes and key lines of latitude
In this Geography video, teachers are supported in helping the children connect their understanding of latitude and longitude with the concept of global biomes. The video recaps the position and significance of the equator, Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn, and explores how these lines of latitude influence climate zones and the environmental regions that develop across the Earth.
Teachers are reminded of the six major biomes, highlighting the correlation between climate, vegetation and wildlife. The focus then narrows to the tropical rainforest biome, using the Amazon rainforest as a case study.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Geography climate teacher videos, equipping teachers to deliver structured and engaging lessons that build pupils’ global geographical knowledge.
