Recognising and pronouncing the hard d sound in Spanish

In this Spanish phonics video, pupils focus on the hard ‘d’ sound, found at the beginning of words such as dado and domingo. While similar to the English ‘d’, the Spanish version has a lighter, more dental quality, produced by placing the tongue against the upper teeth rather than the roof of the mouth.

Through clear mouth mechanics guidance, pupils learn how to shape their mouth and position their tongue to create a crisp, voiced consonant. The video provides visual support and repetition, helping pupils produce the sound accurately and recognise where it occurs in spoken Spanish. Pupils develop confidence in producing essential consonant sounds for clearer, more authentic speech.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Spanish videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore and develop their language skills.
