Website hacking with HTML editing
This Computing scheme of work video shows pupils how to explore and temporarily edit the HTML code of a live web page. It’s a hands-on way for pupils to understand how websites are built and how simple changes to HTML can affect what we see on screen.
The video guides pupils through choosing a web page with lots of text and images, then using the Inspect tool to find and edit the HTML code. By highlighting, right-clicking and inspecting, they can change headings, text and other elements—and see the results instantly.
Pupils learn that these edits only affect how the page looks on their own computer and do not change the real website. Refreshing the page resets everything to how it was originally. The video also includes a clear reminder about using this knowledge responsibly—practising safely, being honest, and never using edits to mislead others.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 4 Skills showcase: HTML unit. It encourages curiosity and responsible digital behaviour while giving pupils a practical understanding of how websites are structured using HTML.
