Learning to weave paper

This Art and design scheme of work video introduces pupils to the basics of weaving paper, helping them practice the over-and-under technique in a clear and simple way.

The video begins by showing pupils how to prepare their paper loom by cutting along the dotted lines to create the warp strips. These are the vertical strips that stay in place while weaving. Pupils then use separate paper strips, called the weft, to begin weaving. The video models the pattern clearly: go over the first warp, under the next, and continue this sequence across the loom. As they build up the layers, pupils will begin to see a pattern of coloured squares appearing.
