Fueling the body right

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Science scheme of work. It is designed for pupils and follows Andy, the Head of Nutrition at Newcastle United Football Club, as he explains how he helps Premier League footballers stay healthy and perform at their best. The video takes viewers through a typical day in Andy’s role – starting in the gym, preparing energy drinks, teaching players about healthy eating, and helping them choose balanced meals that support their training and recovery.

The video also explains the importance of hydration, balanced diets, and regular meals, not only for athletes but for everyone. It explores how protein, carbohydrates, fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats all play key roles in fuelling our bodies, and why junk food can harm performance and health. Pupils learn that good nutrition supports muscle function, energy levels, and recovery, and that eating well can help everyone (not just athletes) feel and perform their best.

The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Science, Mixed-age, Y3/4 (A): Making connections: How does food affect muscle fatigue?, Y3/4 (A): Lesson 3: Investigating muscle fatigue – Analysing, concluding and evaluating
