Discovering senses by the sea

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Science scheme of work. It is designed for pupils and explores the five human senses through a visit to the seaside. The video guides pupils in using their eyes, ears, noses, tongues, and skin to observe and describe the world around them. From the bright colours and crashing waves to the smell of seaweed and the taste of salty seawater, pupils are encouraged to notice how their senses help them experience their surroundings.

The video also introduces texture and temperature, inviting pupils to explore how things feel—like soft sand or cold water. This sensory-rich experience helps pupils understand how we interact with the environment using our senses and builds descriptive vocabulary through real-world examples.

The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Science, Reception, Reception units, Changing seasons, Lesson 6: Summer senses
