Using HTML to replace images

This Computing scheme of work video shows pupils how to replace an image on a live web page by editing the HTML code. It helps pupils understand how websites display pictures and how those images are controlled by simple lines of code.

Pupils are guided step by step through choosing an image, copying its web address, and finding the corresponding <img> tag in the HTML using the Inspect tool. They learn how to paste in the new image URL and see the updated image appear instantly on the page.

The video explains the importance of using images responsibly—only choosing pictures that have permission for reuse—and introduces the alt attribute, which adds a description for people who can’t see the image.

Pupils are also encouraged to update the surrounding text so their page makes sense with the new picture. They’ll gain a clear understanding of how images are added and controlled in HTML—and how coding can change what we see.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 4 Skills showcase: HTML unit. It supports pupils in building confidence with HTML, developing digital awareness and practising responsible online behaviour.
