Adding a switch to a Kapow Doodler

In this Design and technology video, the pupils are guided through adding a switch to a Kapow Doodler, making it easier to turn on and off.

The video demonstrates how to make a switch by marking the top and bottom of a paper clip on the side of the paper cup and pushing a split pin through the cup at the top and bottom marks. Thread the legs of the lower split pin through the paper clip and tighten, meaning the paper clip can swing around to touch the upper split pin, closing the circuit and starting the motor. To switch the motor off again, move the paper clip so it does not touch both split pins, breaking the circuit so the electricity cannot flow around.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Design and technology videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore and make their own products.
