Painting the giant spider model

This Art and design scheme of work video supports pupils as they add the finishing touches to their giant class sculpture by painting it to look like it’s made of bronze.

Pupils begin by using large brushes to cover the entire spider sculpture in black paint. Once it’s dry, they use sponges to gently dab metallic paint over the surface, creating a bronze effect. The video reminds pupils not to drag the sponge but to press lightly, allowing some black areas to show through. This contrast helps the sculpture look more textured and realistic, like aged metal. Once painting is complete, the class is encouraged to think about how to display their finished piece.
