Quiet french sound ch

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow French scheme of work. It introduces pupils to the quiet French sound made by the letters c and h when they appear together. Unlike in English words such as “children,” in French this combination produces a soft “sh” sound, as in “sheep.” Pupils are encouraged to listen carefully and notice that the spelling is different, even though the sound feels familiar.

The narrative continues with practice in “mouth mechanics,” inviting pupils to repeat the calm, peaceful sound and see how quietly they can pronounce it. Examples such as “bonjour” help children identify where the sound occurs, and they are challenged to listen carefully to spot it in other words. The video ends by encouraging pupils to search for more French words with the c and h sound, strengthening both their listening and spelling confidence.
