Creating your first Stop-Motion animation

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Computing scheme of work. It is designed for pupils and guides you through the process of making your own stop-motion animation using an app. You’ll begin by adding a new movie, placing your background and object, and using tools like the grid and onion skinning to help position your object more precisely. By moving your object a little each time and taking a photo with the red button, you’ll build a sequence of frames for your animation.

The video shows you how to repeat this process until your animation is complete. Onion skinning helps you see where your object was in the previous frame, so your movement looks smooth. Once you’ve finished taking your photos, simply press play to watch your animation come to life. With a bit of patience and creativity, you’ll be able to produce a unique and fun stop-motion film.

The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Computing, Upper key stage 2, Year 5, Creating media: Stop motion animation, Stop-motion animation – Option 1: Stop Motion Studio, Lesson 2: Exploring stop-motion
