Welcoming a new baby in different worldviews
In this Religion and worldviews video, Key stage 2 pupils explore how families across different beliefs welcome a new baby through meaningful ceremonies.
The video introduces Christian baptism and Muslim traditions such as the Adhan spoken at birth and the Aqiqah celebration. The children then encounter Hindu rituals, including Jatakarma and Namakarana and Jewish practices such as Brit Milah and Brit Bat. The video also highlights non-religious naming ceremonies to celebrate a baby’s arrival.
Throughout, pupils see how families and communities use ceremonies to express joy, make promises and show the significance of a new life, revealing both diversity and shared themes across worldviews.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and worldviews videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore different beliefs, values and traditions, developing respect and understanding for people of all faiths and worldviews.
