Creating 3D structures

In this Art and design scheme of work video, pupils learn how to turn 2D shapes into 3D structures. They will form, balance and creativity.

The video begins by guiding pupils to draw large shapes on card and carefully cut them out. Bigger shapes will be easier to fold, roll and build with. Pupils experiment with different techniques to make their shapes 3D. A glue stick can help with trickier joins, but pupils are also encouraged to find ways to build without glue or tape. They try slotting shapes together, balancing pieces, and exploring different positions.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 3 Abstract space and shape unit. It helps pupils explore shape, structure and creative problem-solving through hands-on making.
