Seeing the world like a geographer: Mike Leach shares his experiences
In this Geography scheme of work, pupils continue their journey with Mike Leach, a field geographer and nature expert, as he shares more about how geography shapes his work and the questions he asks about the world around him. Mike explains how he observes changes in nature, notices patterns in the environment, and uses geographical knowledge to understand how people and animals are affected by things like weather and climate. He also talks about the importance of curiosity and how asking good questions helps geographers learn more about the places they study.
This second part of the interview encourages pupils to think about the skills they already use in their own geography learning — observing, recording, comparing and exploring. It helps them see that geographers don’t just read maps — they look closely, think deeply and ask why.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Geography in Action videos, helping pupils make meaningful connections between classroom geography and the world beyond.
