Arrange the class into groups of three. Provide each group with the Resource: Knowledge organiser: Science – Earth and space if required (see Adaptive teaching). Display slide 1 of the Presentation: Celestial bodies, which shows the heliocentric model of the Solar System.

Pupils needing extra support:
Could use the Knowledge organiser: Science – Earth and space to help them answer the questions in the Recap and recall activity; could be provided with scissors and the Resource: Results grid (support) to help them design their data table (cutting out the correct number of columns and rows); could request hint words when identifying variables (hint words: temperature, material and surroundings).
Pupils working at greater depth:
Should explain why each of the predictions they do not vote for is incorrect; should explain why they need to control other variables that affect heat loss (fair testing); could choose an extension activity relating to space blankets or the enquiry cycle from the Resource: Stretch and challenge: How reflective are space blankets.
