Exploring beliefs about death

This Religion and worldviews video supports teachers delivering a unit that explores the big questions: How and why are we here? How do worldviews affect our lives? And How can worldviews be expressed? Children investigate Hindu, Sikh, and Buddhist beliefs about what happens after death, considering concepts such as the soul, karma, reincarnation, Samsara, Moksha, Mukti and Nirvana. Through scripture, stories and lived experience, they explore ideas of spiritual liberation, the impact of our actions, and differing understandings of the soul or self. These insights help children reflect on their own worldviews while learning to respect the diverse beliefs of others.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and worldviews resources – death. It supports teachers in approaching the sensitive topic of death with care, fostering thoughtful discussion and providing clarity on complex concepts like enlightenment and the cycle of rebirth. Teachers are guided to explain key differences across dharmic worldviews and to address misconceptions, such as viewing karma as simple reward or punishment, or mistaking Moksha and Nirvana as physical places. The video encourages teachers to create inclusive and respectful spaces for dialogue and offers guidance for adapting lessons to the needs and contexts of their pupils.
