Wire fish sculptures

This archived Art and design scheme of work video introduces teachers to a sculpture lesson where Key stage 2 pupils create fish using soft modelling wire. It explores how to cut, shape, and join wire safely, while developing fine motor skills and patience in learning a new technique. The video demonstrates each stage, from attaching wire to a fish template and bending it into shape, to strengthening with cross-pieces and adding details such as fins and eyes, before optionally extending the activity with tissue and paint.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s  original LKS2 Art and design resources. It supports teachers in guiding pupils to experiment with wire as a sculptural medium, encouraging creativity, resilience, and problem-solving while producing imaginative fish designs.
