Exploring the French-speaking world

This French video introduces teachers to a lesson where pupils go on a tour of French-speaking countries, building on the transport topic they encountered in Year 3. The lesson provides opportunities for speaking, listening, reading, and writing descriptive phrases, with a warm-up that revises colour adjectives through jumbled word and missing letter activities. These quick challenges not only reinforce spelling but also help with phonics practice and can be adapted for mini whiteboards as quick assessment tasks.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s French scheme – vocabulary. It focuses on matching flags to countries and locating them on a world map, supported by a series of clues. Children review the use of colour and size adjectives, while also noticing grammar points such as de la France versus du Maroc, helping them apply earlier learning about articles. Missing clues for some flags provide a natural extension task, encouraging pupils to create their own. The lesson links easily with art, geography, and international events such as the World Cup or Olympics, making it an engaging cross-curricular activity that brings the global French-speaking community to life.
