Sacred texts in eastern worldviews

This Religion and worldviews video supports teachers in exploring the role and significance of scripture within Buddhist, Hindu and Sikh worldviews. It introduces children to key ideas of what makes a text sacred, holy or divine, and helps them understand how followers engage with scripture in different ways. The video also explains how some religious texts, such as the Vedas or the Guru Granth Sahib, are treated with great reverence, while others evolved over time from oral traditions and were later written down.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and worldviews scheme – Scripture. It prepares teachers to explore complex concepts like divinity, wisdom and sacredness with clarity and sensitivity. It supports classroom discussion around the origins and purposes of scripture, helping pupils develop understanding of different beliefs while encouraging them to reflect on their own worldviews. It also highlights opportunities for local community links and inclusive teaching practice.
