Displaying installation art

This Art and design scheme of work video guides pupils through the final stage of their installation art project, as they plan how their work will be displayed and experienced by an audience.

Pupils reflect on the two key elements of installation art: the concept and the viewer experience. The video encourages them to think like artists, using real-world examples to explore how installations can be set up in creative ways.

While recognising the limitations which come with displaying their installation in school, pupils are invited to imagine what they would do with no boundaries, such as using lighting, sound or video to enhance the experience. Several outcome options are suggested, such as sketchbook plans, annotated photographs, drawings, or written reflections. Pupils could also use technology to create digital proposals, filmed walkthroughs or mock artist interviews. Some may prefer to prepare a presentation or design promotional material to showcase their work and explain their message.
