Talking about age in French

This French video introduces teachers to building sentences about age, providing an early encounter with the verb avoir (“to have”), essential for expressing age in French. Pupils discover how age phrases differ from English through a warm-up activity based on a penfriend’s letter, spotting number words in context and identifying key sentence components.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s French scheme – vocabulary. It supports teaching both the statement and question forms for age, including pronunciation tips such as liaison between words. Activities in the lesson plan use pair, group and class work to reinforce these structures, helping pupils compare French and English sentence patterns and strengthening both grammar understanding and phonics recall.
