Debugging Bee-Bot stories

This Computing video supports teachers in delivering a cross-curricular lesson where the children combine programming with storytelling. Using a story structure, the children are given a meaningful context for programming the Bee-Bot, helping to engage those who might be less motivated by coding alone. The narrative-based approach also allows flexibility and differentiation, as the children can choose how much of the story to tackle at once. The lesson introduces debugging, encouraging the children to identify and correct errors without moving the Bee-Bot manually.

This video is part of the Year 1 Programming 2: Bee-Bot unit and supports teachers in showing the children how to debug and develop resilience when programs do not work as planned. It builds on earlier sessions involving tinkering and purposeful programming, helping the children gain confidence in identifying and fixing problems in their code.
