Models of the Solar System

This Science scheme of work video introduces teachers to the skills needed to help Key Stage 2 pupils explore how scientific models of the Solar System have changed over time. It introduces the geocentric model developed by Ptolemy and contrasts it with Copernicus’s heliocentric model, helping pupils understand how scientific thinking evolves with new evidence. Pupils also examine evidence that the Earth is spherical and model planetary orbits using scale comparisons to develop a clearer picture of the Solar System.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Science Space resources. It simplifies the process, ensuring teachers feel confident and prepared to support pupils in analysing historical and current evidence, building conceptual understanding, and applying it through practical modelling in lessons like the ones below.
