Creating personal memory boxes

This archived Art and design scheme of work video introduces teachers to a creative project where Key stage 2 pupils combine graphical drawings with text to represent ideas and memories. It explores how simplified images, keywords, and colour choices can communicate meaning, as pupils design a lid for their memory box before constructing the cuboid container from their earlier still life studies. The video demonstrates each stage, from folding and preparing the card to taping, assembling, and strengthening the box, before attaching the illustrated lid and base.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s original KS2 Art and design resources. It provides clear guidance to help teachers support pupils in combining different artistic styles and mediums, while encouraging them to reflect on their personal experiences through inventive and expressive memory boxes.
